I am not so petty and require from a fantasy story that it accurately
reflects the historical details. That's the artistic freedom. But
sometimes the authors meet the truth pretty much. That is the case
with Ishtar so far.

The true Sumerian goddess Ishtar was the goddess of sexual love and at
the same time the one of war. As such, she united two opposing
characters in one person.

In that sense, it is the ideal character for Rin Tohsaka, and so far
they are doing well in the anime.

In the Akkadian tales Ishtar prevailed with her seductive arts even
there, where all other gods failed. There were only two exceptions:
one was her sister Ereshkigal and the other was a blind and deaf
demon.

Let's see how far they go in the anime. :-)

Apart from that, the anime is very close to the Sumerian original of
daily life.

That Siduri is veiled, is no bow to the current ideas about women in
the Middle East, but is based on fact. Occasionally wearing a veil is
mentioned in the Gilgamesh epic for men and women. Who has to veil
herself, and whom was it forbidden, was later regulated by law.

Well, enjoy the show, and have a nice day.
