“No Guns Life” is an adaptation of a manga sci-fi take on “hard-boiled” detective stories set in a world where human-weapon composites try to reintegrated into human society after a major war. One of these composites, Juzo, has a large revolver for a head. Never-the-less, he still drinks and smokes in a hard-boiled manner as he sets out to take care of business for his clients. Juzo finds himself caught up in a situation that pits him against a large and mysterious company that makes composites.
While I watched the first episode I got the impression that the series is created by people who have never actually seen the original movies or read the original stories that form the basis of this genre. Instead the show seems like a parody of parodies of the originals. The drama lacks any bite and the humour lacks any focus. I’m going to stick around for another episode to see if things get better but I don’t have high hopes at this point. My initial rating is C+.
