“Assassins Pride” is an adaptation of a light novel about a young assassin who is supposed to tutor an illegitimate noble girl in magic, and if the girl can’t get her magic going the assassin is supposed to kill her. The young assassin has strong magical powers. The illegitimate girl is a whiney airhead with no powers. They talk at each other a lot.

At first this looked like it would be an action anime, albeit one of those in which the action demolishes my suspension of disbelief. (The young assassin can simultaneously cut multiple bullets in half with a sword when he is attacked by multiple assassins.) But the show then went into Quaalude mode and introduced a world/city that looks like a chandelier, which sent my s.o.d. into permanent freefall.

The young assassin bored me. The illegitimate girl irritated me. I found the world/plot setup to be painfully contrived. This felt like a 1990s OAV but it won’t have the mercy of ending after 3 or 4 episodes. I’m not watching more and my final rating is C.
