“Mairimashita! Iruma-kun” is an old-fashioned gag comedy. Fourteen year old Iruma has had worse than a dog’s life as his parents have had him work to support them since he was little. Then when things can’t seem to get worse Iruma is kidnapped by a demon who informs Iruma that Iruma’s parents have sold Iruma’s soul to the demon. Iruma isn’t surprised and he expects the worst, but it turns out that the demon wants to adopt Iruma as his grandson.
Iruma accepts because he is unable to say no to a request and thus he becomes the grandson of the demon. This includes a number or perks because the demon is very powerful. This also means that Iruma must attend the local Demon High School where he quickly gets caught up in his grandfather’s machinations.
The first episode wasn’t terribly witty or original but it was quite energetic. The pace is lively. The dialog is enthusiastically dumb. This is a popcorn comedy without any shame. I enjoyed it enough that I’ll watch more. My initial rating is B-.
