It runs fine from the floppy but when I copy all the files to a folder on my HDD it still requests the floppy on startup. Any idea how to fix this? I can't seem to locate a manual for the Apple II version, only PC.

The [BAD!] copy of the VisiCalc manual I have is just an intro. and four lessons (chapters) about how to use it. It has no info. about using it from a hard disk. But, it is a very early version of VisiCalc, not the Advanced version.

The earlier one is DOS3.3 I think? I have that one too, but I wanted to get the ProDOS one going with the hard drive. I have been building a hard drive image of useful productivity and programming software.

The Prodos version, AFAIK, was never released.

It came on a demo disk with SuperCalc 3.

Maybe somebody upgraded the Dos version ro Prodos, but I have never seen an official release.

I copied Visicalc to my hard drive and was able to run it no problem. Maybe try renaming the folder to the same name as the floppy.

The one you have running from the hard drive is 'Visicalc Advanced' (1983 or so) or some earlier version?

I suspect you are correct. There is a LOADVC.SYSTEM, which seems to
just be a small stub to load VC2, which is the real program. I am not
sure that renaming the directory will work though.

I have only seen one version amd even that took forever to find. Don't recall seeing any version numbers, but if you can give me specifics.

LOADVC.SYSTEM is 342 bytes.
VC2 is 36473
VC2.OVL is 31498

The VisiCalc advanced po image 800k dated 1/10/17 is my creation from the files I found on a SuperCalc V5 image. The prodos directory of that disk is /PROVAV.PROGRAM you could try that name for a directory

I will give it a whirl - thanks Larry! That is indeed the 800K image that I am using.

I played around with this a bit more. It turns out that the program files and help file need to be in the top level of the volume. The three files that need to be there are VC2, VC2.OVL and HELP.TEXT.FILE (if you want to use the help system.) LOADVC.SYSTEM can be anywhere. The code doesn't care about the name of the volume.

I wrote a little BASIC program to copy the requisite files to the top level of the volume, and to clean them up afterwards. I can post it here if anyone wants it (it uses the ProCMD COPY utility to copy the files.)

Has it been clarified if the version you are using is the same as the Advanced version on the SuperCalc3 disk?

I think so - retrogear says it was from a Supercalc 5 image (above).

Incidentally, which is the most recent Supercalc for Apple //e 128k? I have Supercalc3a I think. Is there a version 5? If so, was that GS only I wonder?

It is from a spreadsheets disk offering Supercalc3a or Visicalc Advanced. For some reason the image was labeled v5

Makes sense ... I figured v5 was MSDOS only.
