I'm having trouble with Pitch Dark and Pitch Darker. I'm using an Apple IIe, real hard drive, and a SCSI Card Rev C. Pitch Dark mostly works, but any Z4 game (AMFV, Bureaucracy, Nord and Bert) give the following error when I try and run them: "No .sav File Saving Disabled. Internal Error 17" (might have been 15), then it reboots. Beyond Zork just gives a black screen and crashes. All the other games work just fine as far as I can tell.
Pitch Darker has similar problems to Beyond Zork. Many of the games just load a black screen and crash. Some work, but it's probably less than half.
Any idea what could be the problem?

Sure. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to help. More details about my setup:
Enchanced IIe
Rev C Apple SCSI Card (slot 7)
Disk Controller (slot 6)
Mockingboard (slot 5)
Mouse Card (slot 4)
Super Serial Card (slot 1)
I'm using an external scsi enclosure with an ibm hard drive (I think it's 500MB). I have six 32MB partitions. Alex Lee's 8-bit game archive is on the first, Total Replay one the second, Pitch Dark on the third, and Pitch Darker on the fourth. The last two are empty. I tab over to the Pitch Dark partition (the first partition boots into that Quick Loader browser) and run the Grue.system file to start it.

Thanks.
Before running AMFV, does it say "Release 79 / ... (patched)"? Or did you select a different version? If it's the patched R79, does your image have a "AMFV/R79.DEPROT.SAV" file?
If it's there, then I have an idea about where the disk access is failing.
If it's not there, then your image is incomplete (possibly truncated) and that would explain why it's failing.

Yes it's there. The file has a T next to it, not sure what that indicates (all the .sav files do).
I tried both versions, same error.

As well as Z5, since both of those are Z5 games.

Is BZ Z5? I thought it was a Z4. :)
Turns out there's a problem with Pitch Dark working on any other partition other than the first. When it's the first partition everything works.

Beyond Zork and Border Zone are both Z5. IIRC, the only Z4 games are A
Mind Forever Voyaging, Bureaucracy, Nord And Bert Couldn't Make Head Nor
Tail Of It, and Trinity.
Also the majority of fan games compiled with Inform are Z5.
