Seeing I have a Rom 01 setting slot 7 to AppleTalk and slot 2 to your card I seem to have run into a problem.

I have moved my hard drive to slot 4.

No physical cards in 5- 6- or 7 or devices connected to the smart ports.

Running ADTPro serial bootstrapping, the screen of the 2gs reads Found Slot 7. Loading MLI and that is all she wrote.

Do I have to move my hard drive back to slot 7 in order to bootstrap?

I would not think so ... but yet,,,, here I am.

Any help?

What's in slot 2 such that you're setting it to "your card?" I think
you don't want to do that. Also, for the purposes of bootstrapping -
you probably don't want to set slot 7 to anything special. It would be
best if you just leave everything to default values as the website
instructs you (I'm assuming you're using the MiniDIN8 cable plugged into
the modem port):

Using all defaults and the modem port, it should say "Found slot 8"
(which is really code for internal "slot" 2, the modem port).

Slot 2 set to your card for appletalk on a Rom 1 and therefor slot 7 as well. I have uthernet in slot 1 and with Appletalk enabled moved HD to slot 4.

Left hard drive in Slot 4 turned slot 7 back to your card and slot two to modem port, saved and exited out of control panel. Power off and back on.

Been using ADTPro since May to make backups of my GS to my Mac using the serial cables from Retrofloppy.

All this being stated has yet to fix the issue I am having.

Thank you for your reply.

If you're already using ADTPro, why are you trying to bootstrap?

Very good question.

1. Last 3.5 drive not working and I don’t have another device to boot ADTPro.

That leaves me with the only option I know of, to bootstrap into ADTPro and backup my Harddrive that way.

Then I guess I'd suggest taking the system down to its minimum
configuration: the hard drive and the serial cable. Disconnect anything
unnecessary for that task (i.e. AppleTalk).

I am going to do that and see if something got a little screwy with turning on Appletalk and testing connection to server.

The reason I did this, incase you might be wondering is...

I wanted to see if connecting via Appletalk to a Raspberry Pi with A2Server would allow me to still back up the GS hard drive via ADT Pro.

It would appear... from first try that this might not happen..

But.. as Apple ][ users, we always push a little harder, a little further and we take our victories and defeats as they come.

If you're going to do all that stuff _and_ try to bootstrap too, the
problem you'll run into is that the bootstrapping code sniffs out the
machine to find appropriate serial hardware. Once it thinks it's done
that, it rolls with it and can't be changed during bootstrapping.

Once you have got a local copy of ADTPro, though, you can save a
configuration file that directs it as to what serial device to use
without question, and you can do things like have 6 serial ports in a
machine and use exactly the one you want - not the first one it sees.
So all that complexity in your system while trying to bootstrap with
autodetection is working against you.
