"None of the FAQs say this, but the Epson Stylus works great with
the Epson LQ drivers in the Harmonie package of printer drivers
(contact Joe Kohn at http://www.crl.com/~joko/ ). You'll want to
use the 56.7kbps serial port driver and set your dpi to 360. The
printed output is 360x360dpi.

How good is it? Frankly, the quality is better than I've seen
from any HP DeskJet/DeskWriter _or_ Canon BJ/C using the Harmonie
drivers.

GS users that are in the market for a laser quality ink-jet printer
should consider the Epson Stylus. This information should go into
the FAQs. Joe Kohn should consider adding the Stylus line to the
list of compatible printers on his web site.

I've installed the Harmonie drivers, but no luck accessing the printer via a serial hookup using the imagewriter ll cable directly. ? What should my Classic Control panel settings be ? Handshake etc etc, A real. novice with this setup, so I need a good bit of detail... Can someone help?

I haven't printed on a GS since the 90's, but I think I used an HP Deskjet 550C. It needed a driver for GSOS from the Harmonie package to function at the higher DPI's IIRC

The latest on the above printer.
1) Use ONLY a Grappler plus or probably a ProGrappler parallel card in slot 1 (no luck at ALL with an Epson APL card!)
2) for GS/OS Programs, install the Epson driver from the 6.0.1 Install disk using the Installer.
3) Install the Grappler Plus driver from Harmony in slot 1
4) remember to use the control panels to set your slot 1 to 'My Card'
5) from the DC printer control panel , choose the Grappler plus above, and Epson below
6 )print away! (Teach, EgoEd,,AWGS etc) using condensed mode

For Appleworks 5.1

1) setup a custom printer (from Other Activities --> select standard settings...--> printer settings. with the following:
Interface card : control-I 0N (for the grappler) thats a zero
Under printer codes: 10 cpi = Escape@ 12 cpi - Escape M 17cpi - escape g
6 lines per inch. Escape 2. 8 LPI : escape 0
boldface begin: Escape G boldface end: Escape H
subscript begin: Escape S control H. Subscript end: Escape T
superscript begin: Escape S superscript end: Escape T
underlining begin: Escape 1 underlie end : Escape 0

ie "Printer has start stop commands"

BTW, I had NO LUCK with a serial cable connection to the 750 Stylus no matter what drivers I trie, Harmony or otherwise. Others have supposedly had success, but I did not! (see previous posting above )
The output in AW 5..1 is GREAT! Real good is GS/OS too. Poor for graphics, however.
