APMSX ready for pre-order.

It's a fast DMA MSX Computer card for APPLE II.
Runs MSX 16Mhz with smooth VDP screen.
I'm waiting for parts and PCB board for it.

Please visit this link and also refer related posts.

Thanks a lot.

That's the number I was looking for... that'll be close to $400AU for me.. I can't stretch that far, as much I like the idea...

It took many months to be completed.
I just want to return my expenses and costs for testing materials.
It's still far from my total costs even if sold several hundred sets.
Thanks

Not a slam on your price. Is a nice card. But never really heard of the
functions of your card on such in the USA so kinda exotic for me. I get
the stand alone CPU options. I assume it can be used as a standard cp/m
card in a //e? Other than that it is above my head unless their are
other features you can incorporate into apple //e type uses rather than
the stand alone card computer functions alone it seems to be designed
for. math co-processor card? other?

but no..again not a slam on your efforts, just very, very impressive card
I just never heard of an msx computer before less one on an apple iie
card. :( Not common from my point of view in USA.

I have to concur with the others unfortunately, its just economics and return on your spend. I'd love to get one, I just can't afford to. Especially something that would see very limited use here. Your efforts are great and appreciated, my pockets just aren't deep enough.

To clarify, does the APMSX support MSX2 games?

I'm really excited by the potential of the card, but my limited time
playing around with the Apple II these days means I can barely afford
one right now and won't have the time to play with it anyway. I hope
they'll still be available in a few years time when my kids will be too
embarassed to hang out with me ;-)

Also, I'd love a card that could run ANY old school system inside of
the Apple II, but that's probably too much to ask for (I can dream).

Dear Alex,

I think that you missed the Specification of APMSX.
This is the specification of APMSX>
-----------------------------------------------
Specifications
Name of the card; APMSX V1.23a
MSX1 compatible;
What is MSX? please refer here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MSX
Games for fun; https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=MSX1+games
VDP; TMS9918 (NTSC)
PSG; AY3-8910
RAM; 512KB SRAM
Z80 Clock speed; 3.58Mhz, 7.16Mhz, 4Mhz, 8Mhz, 16Mhz(Overclocked)
RAM Mapper support; 256KB MAX
Mega ROM mapper support; 256KB MAX, Konami, ASCII 8K, ASCII 16K
Keyboard; 1 PS2 Keyboard port
Joystick; 1 MSX DB9 standard port
-----------------------------------------------

APMSX is not only the purpose to play old games
Because there are many ways to play old machine games by software emulators
But, It is a real MSX computer and fusion into the APPLE II system hence can share each other system resources.
It was a complicated project but, it would be a good way to invite another old school system.
You would be happy if I could make a such as the Comodore.
If I could keep motivation, I could try to put another system into the APPLE II.

Thanks;
Ian Kim

If I didn't already have an MSX 2+ I'd be all over this. It's a really interesting idea, I like how it's not just an MSX in the Apple II but that they can share resources.

There are lots of fun MSX games and if you're interested in an MSX it's going to cost almost this much to import one to the US anyway.

I think the idea came when I suggested translating MSX games to 6502 for
the sprite cards.

Which I still would like to be able to do.

Not so, Your translation isn't an efficient approach to make the MSX game.
It must make new just following the MSX game for the card.

To be translated, At least, both systems should be similar CPU and structure.
But, MSX and APPLE II they are nothing similarity had.
From the CPU and Memory structure and I/O Video Keyboard and sound etc..

And my idea is to put an MSX computer into APPLE II.
There are no similar points of the sprite card.
I just open the MSX I/O ports for APPLE II and it may use as the Sprite card.

I have many nice ideas, but, if I didn't make it true
It is just winds of empty space.

Thanks

I also have MSX2 but, I like this card better than MSX2.
I can handle almost everything and PS2 easy maintenance keyboard, no need ROM cartridge, bigger RAM, faster 16Mhz speed, and even controlled by APPLE II. Memory and I/O share etc..
It gave me the freedom with my APPLE II.

But wait, there's more!

I'm not sure, but I *think* the card can do MSX-DOS? If so, that opens up
the world of ColecoVision emulation...

(The files are LHARC)

I think there's a similar program somewhere to play SG-1000 games too.

Thus new vistas to explore in MSX Computer Land....

Konami and Namco did a lot of really good ports.

I think there's some ports shared with the ColecoVision and SG-1000 as
well since those had very similar hardware.

Is it possible to use Colecovision ROMMs with this new card? If someone can verify that it is, I will purchase one for sure!

I've heard that there is some sort of hack or loader to the MSX which will allow it to read, intrepret, and execute the ROM code contained in Colecovision catrideges if they've been dumped to disk and / or memory.

If it can run MSX-DOS, you can use Mission, which is the loader in
question.

The 9918 is capable of overlay - it was used, for example, in the arcade
game Cliff Hanger.

It has separated video output and able to switching APPLE II<->MSX screen.
When MSX activated, It switches to MSX screen. so, even one monitor, it is OK for most of the cases.

But, if want to handle two computers at the same time, You need two monitors on for APPLE II and other for APMSX.

The overlay is another concept. if want mixed screen with MSX/APPLE>
Anyway, the overlay doesn't use on APMSX.

Coleco ROM needs to be patched for MSX environments.
I heard a software translate(Patch) for Colecovision / SG1000 anyway not all games works. After patched ROM images, it also could work on APMSX.
APMSX card can use the SD DISKII plus *.HDV(32MB) as its own HDD but, the driver isn't perfect to run MSXDOS.
And need to load ROM images by APPLE II power before to start MSX.
And MSX detects as a ROM cartridge is in the system.

Thanks

APMSX card starts to boot MSXDOS and read&run FDD images as below.
It took several months to fix those some bugs.
It is based on the BeerIDE disassembled source code and there are some bugs.
Anyway, It knowns as Not boot MSXDOS but it looks fixed.
It is testing driver and may have some bugs. I will fix when I found it.
Please watch the capability of APMSX card.

This probably will allow "execrom" (loads and runs a ROM file from disk)
and "mission" (ColecoVision emulator) to work. :>

There's also an SG-1000 emulator similar to Mission somewhere, but I can't
remember what it's called.

Now this is getting exciting, and very much more useful. But, who will be the guinea pig, and actually buy one of these cards, test it out throughly with loading ROMs off disk *and* grilling it with the Colecovision emulator (and loading *its* ROMs off of disk)? I'm hoping all of this will work seamlessly, accurately, and expeditiously.

That would make this cards truly worth its weight in gold!

For that price, I'd want MSX2 rather than MSX1.

If only considering to play games, buying MSX2 also would be a good choice.

APMSX isn't only the purpose to run MSX games.
But, If someone wants more than MSX, APMSX is fun device.
It has a powerful DMA BUS Access capability to handle APPLE IIe devices.
And can run 16Mhz Z80 system.
(There is no smooth running real 16Mhz Z80 MSX computer in the worlds except APMSX
)
As in the Demo. It runs an APPLE II device and boot MSXDOS.
Could make programs which can play at the same time on APPLE II and MSX. such as a fast network.
AnywayI can't make it many because it is a complicated card and I'm very tired to develop it. Anyway, I received full orders.
