“RobiHatchi” appears to be another “time warp” anime in the sense that while watching it I got the feeling that I was dropped back 20 years in time and watching a late 90s sci-fi comedy like “Tenamonya Voyagers” but crossed with “Gintama” and having the voice actor for Zoro from “One Piece” play one of the two leads.
In a future after Humanity has come in contact with aliens and become part of a wider galaxy-wide society a loud-mouthed loser called Robi and a smart-mouthed younger guy called Hachi go off together into the galaxy in search of wealth and adventure. Various high jinks ensue including escape via a penthouse that turns into a spaceship, and two space fighters that merge into a giant robot.
The first episode wasn’t very funny. For example, the mecha joke has been done endlessly since at least the early 80s. There was too much exposition at the beginning. The “squabbling buddies” routine has been done way too much for too many decades. I’ll watch one more episode just in case they find a writer or two who can compose some humour, but I’m not expecting much. My initial rating is C-.
