Thanks in advance!

Then you already know about whatisthe2gs, and its various drive image
collections?

Thanks for the shout out David!

Given the 32meg limit as being the maximum volume size of ProDOS, I've
had to split up all hard drive installable software for the IIGS across
multiple 32meg disk images. Some might ask – why don't you just have a
ProDOS boot volume and include all the apps on a HFS formatted volume
up to 4GB? If did that...

1) You're limited to only using System 6. Some applications will only
work System 5.0.4 or even earlier versions of GS/OS and ProDOS 16.
2) ProDOS 8 apps can't be launched from HFS volumes
3) It's easy to get carried away with HFS file naming allowances, but
that becomes a major pain in the arse if you're copying those back to a
ProDOS volume.
4) Despite the HFS FST patch, I still don't trust HFS formatted volumes
on the IIGS. There have been too many examples of data corruption,
which seems to happen more the larger the size of the volume.

Having multiple 32meg disk images is perfect for use with emulators and
the CFFA3000 (and to a lesser extent, the FloppyEmu) but requires
CiderPress to copy onto partitions created on a CF card used with a
MicroDrive Turbo, CFFA 1 or 2, Focus or a SCSI2SD in league with any
SCSI card.

Also – feel free to mix and match with what I've collected across the
mutliple 32meg disk images. Simply copy the folders of apps and games
of the ones you really want onto your own disk images and discard the
rest. Just make sure you copy all the tools and fonts from the System
6.0.x images into your own system to ensure smooth operating running
any IIGS application.

Other games seem to bork the Floppy Emu firmware (Ancient Glory, Cavern Cobra, Marble Madness). I'll have to try it with a CFFA3000.

I had Rastan running once, but it seems to ask for "Disk B" every time now.

Anyway, thanks for collecting those! Lots of fun games.

If you're running System 6, a minimum of 2meg of RAM is advised.

However, you can also download the "Taifun Boot" disk image I've
prepared, where upon boot-up, it asks what version of GS/OS or ProDOS
16 you want to start-up with. Start with using System 5.0.4 first and
see if that frees up enough memory:

http://www.whatisthe2gs.apple2.org.za/files/System_Taifun_Bo ot_ROM03_Compatible.zip

The CFFA3000 makes it super easy to mount each of these disk images on
the Smartport.

Re: FloppyEmu – is it set to Apple II mode? You also have to set it to
3.5" disk mode if you're using 800 2image or .PO format disk images.

Rastan should run fine from its original 2 800k disk images, but there
was another recent report of how a IIGS game requiring two disks didn't
work with the FloppyEmu because it seemed to fail at realising the
first disk had been ejected and the second disk then mounted in its
place.

To get Rastan working from the Action games volume, from System 6, is
to hold the '8' key down from the start of booting. This will only load
ProDOS 8 and at the BASIC prompt, type 'bye' to return to the built-in
program launcher (or Bitsy Bye if you're using > ProDOS 2.4). Then find
the Rastan folder (Task Force is another ProDOS 8 compatible title
worth checking out as well) and run the executable from there. Without
the overhead of GS/OS, you'll have enough memory to run Rastan with
1.25meg of RAM.

Okay, did a little board and card swapping. I now have a non-yellowed case ROM3 with a CFFA3000 and 2MB of RAM. Things are working now! (I had two ROM1 boards; one with no audio, and one with super noisy audio).

The Floppy Emu was in smartport mode. I don't think you can "swap" disks if it is in drive mode, but Rastan would probably work if you mounted both disks simultaneously.

Side Note: This RGB monitor looks amazing with 8-bit games, and my dumb video projects (even better in fast mode).

Thanks again!
