I think with 4 outputs and 8 channels a pair of cards can already support Dolby 5.1 and 7.1 out of the box, well, with 4 two dollar splitters.

If you use a 3.5mm male to 2 female RCA splitter, you could send an output to any two powered speakers?

why not just use the two front high channels as your center and subwoofer. hear me out.

with a NinjaTracker mod and 15 channels, true Dolby 7.1 is there if you get creative with it. Create an instrument that has a peak under 100Hz and you now have a subwoofer channel. with a shielded speaker cable you could even avoid AC interference a little better.

if went a little further and got crafty with it, i think within a single NTP file you could have support for stereo, standard surround, 5.1, 7.1, and 4soniq's 8 speaker setup, and the user could choose which. my next post will go into much more detail on this idea.

Please if anyone thinks subwoofer and 4soniq is a bad mix PLEASE say something, i've only done a tiny bit of research on it.

Also, any users of the card I'd love to hear your experiences. And let me know if you are interested in testing early versions of my music

it's the NinjaTrackerPlus demo with 2 new songs on it. I originally edited them from very old amiga mods into what they are now. There is very little left of the original compositions but I don't feel like I created these songs. mortimer twang is the alias of the person who originally created the mods around 1997

I added 2x4soniq support in SoundSmith v2. One can output sound to any of the eight channels.

When I first learned that the IIgs could support up to eight audio
output channels, I wanted to build a set of headphones that had four
speakers over each ear so you could make spherical surround sound. You
could tell when sounds were to your left or right, in front of you and
behind you as well as above you and below you. Never even made a
prototype, though.

How about a little melody swirling around the corners of the room above you, while the beat comes from below, and the hi hats and cymbals from behind, all slightly swaying back and forth with volume fades and stuff. i think i can make a little something that at least experiment with the idea

Hi antoine! I have decided that any work for mods with NTP will be done with SSv2 importing in mind. Is there an easy way to convert from MOD to SSM & WAV currently? How compatible are the NinjaTracker (non Plus version) modules with SoundSmith v2? I actually have about 50 songs (random artists) in that format already converted to .SSM & .WAV !

I have tried deMODifier to get SSv1 modules converted, and while the result was better than expected, there was much missing. I loved being able to open them from the finder though, with SoundIt NDA (I think?). Can you point me in the right direction as far as MOD > SSv2 conversion goes? My mod editor is a PC tool, so any music will need to be imported and converted to GS friendly things!

Use Ninjaforce's module player instead of Soundsmith v2. NF's player recognizes nearly all of the MOD effects!

One thing that I realized after my initial thought was that the number
of oscillators/voices could be quite limiting. If you set up the
speakers with left/right in front of you and behind you and a left/right
above you and below you, if you want a sound to seem like it is coming
from directly behind but somewhat above you then you need to play that
sound out of four channels (left rear, right rear, left above and right
above).

This means having to play that sound four times simultaneously which
uses four voices. This might not be too bad for game sound effects but
would limit music a fair bit.
