RIVERS OF LIGHT
LANDS OF ADVENTURIA
FANTASY ADVENTURE
SCIENCE FICTION ADVRNTURE
SPY/MYSTERY ADVRNTURE.

Of these I believe I have Science fiction and Rivers of life. Icantbesure they are masters esp the sci-fi since it was ran at least once through HAVE ACS FINISH THE ADVRNTURE. The same was true for fantasy except I believe they erased all monsters and items and tried to remake by having ACS finish the adventure. Seems they used sci-fi to finish as that’s an option no matter what graphic set. It’s pretty annoying.

The problem is MAKE AN ADVENTURE DISK or COPY ADVENTURE DISK. When it asks for blank disk or disk to put adventure I keep on getting the error CHECK DISK OR DRIVE. This is virtual using APPLEWIN but I also tried on the online APPLEIIjava. I get the same error.

I’m at a loss on what to do. I’ll try the ciderpress to format a digital blank and try again but I don’t think it’ll be any different. I need some help with this.

I’d be grateful if all the adventures were freshly made and saved as .dsk but I’ll take at minimum spy, fantasy, and esp lands of Adventuria.

Why?

Well I’m putting together a Stuart smith package of Fracas, Age of heroes (and the individual Heracles + Ali baba) and all versions of ACS (dos, c64, Apple II, Amiga). There were some more adventures submitted to c64 recently, my dad and I had some turned to d64 images, I managed to get the dos disks made, and I made all the Amiga via emulator including the extra Agent module (escapes my memory atm).

It’s pure nostalgia and I just want to put something together in one big download including manuals and images and even a spreadsheet. It’s a mess atm. I even have tilesets done for all except the appleII.

Maybe no one is interested but I can try to keep this alive. On moonlit nights the cold blue light along with some classical music from my MP3 player inspires me to try.

Here’s hoping someone can help.

From where did you get your version of ACS?
If I can reproduce the Check Disk effect, then I can fix it, too.

I can confirm it has a problem. I tried a copy of ACS in GSplus, and while it works, it spits an error looking for an ACS data disk, makes me think its some kind of special format. But popping a prodos or dos3.3 image in it results in a failure.

I have a physical copy that I think was not used before. I imaged it some time ago but I guess I did not upload it because it seemed to be already available on asimov. Anyway here is a link to the collection on my Dropbox.

Could you give it a try and let me know?

Makes me wonder how ACS tests for presence of a disk...

It's falsely detecting write-protection because the write-state is not flushed after writing the final nibble. I don't know how it could have ever worked.
You can create a deprotected image (either physical disk or emulated via .woz) using Passport, and then the one byte to change is this:
T08 S04 A62: 62 -> 1E
That avoids the faulty write-protection check on the data disk and allows the copy to proceed.

At this point my frustration doesn’t care. I’ll put together the package and try to clean up the working adventures for appleII I have as .dsk. The other emulations for their systems work fine.

If the Apple emu gets screwed a few disks; I just can’t remedy that on my own. I’ve asked those who supposedly made fresh adventure copies to temp host the adventures so I can dL them. I would zip them with the rest of my idea then I’d seed the download link wherever I could just to keep all versions of ACS via emu available in one tidy DL. The idea was to maybe give enough inspiration for others to search and inveigste to find the list ACS club newsletter, adventures, and more to archive. The nostalgia bug hit me so I went with it. But now, at this point, the frustration and my inability is just done. This group has been very good and I thank you.

As soon as I place the blank in and it says formatting I get that
TROUBLE WITH DISK
PLEASE CHRCK DISK AND DRIVE DOOR.
PRESS SPACE TO CONTINUE.

Fresh from the Apple press.

I might check ULTIMA 3 and see if it’s the blanks. I must be an idiot or something.

They're all going to behave like that. The problem is in the program disk, not the scenarios disks.
Please check the image in your e-mail to see if it solves the problem for you.

Ok. It worked on the online java apple emulator. Pity I couldn't save the freshly made Adventuria. When I get back to my home PC I'll boot up the emulator and work on saving the disks.

It worked brilliantly. So Disk 1 Side 1 from all the other sites were just corrupt. Go Figure.

Maybe after all this I'll see why the emulator freezes on ultima III and trying to insert the scenario disk.

Thank you so much qkumba. You saved me a lot of time. Now I just have to make a few disks on Dos and I’m good to go.

AWESOMENESS TO MY DAY!

I just tested it and it actually worked. I was able to create all disks without trouble. Anyway, happy that you found another solution. I'll leave the files there in case someone else is looking for them.
