There is finally something worth watching in this season of despair – Golden Kamuy is back and it is just as much fun as when it left off three months ago. Once again we are in early 20th Century Hokkaido following a very bloody version of “The Twelve Chairs”. And to add to the fun Norman Bates just joined the cast.
What we have here in Golden Kamuy is exactly what is missing in so many current anime – professional story telling. The characters are compelling individuals, the setting is well fleshed out (even as characters get flayed...) and the story provides a convincing mystery with plenty of valid surprises. Best of all, it is fun to watch because it is intelligently written and it demands attention from the audience.
If you are not watching this you should be. My initial rating is A.

It's rare that we agree but here we do.
