I was looking for something that might function as a nut plate for mounting
D-sub connectors in Apple IIs when I found this:

DB-23s are apparently a thing on Amigas and such. Something like this could
easily be remixed into the DB-19 connectors used to hook up disk drives on
the Apple II (or Mac, for completeness). As long as you're not relying on a
metal shell for the ground connection, this ought to work.

I think they only have the male connectors; the link for the female
connectors comes back with an error. I was thinking earlier this
year of an inline adapter for which I'd need both male and female
connectors, and managed to find the female connectors here:

https://www.exxoshost.co.uk/atari/last/storenew/

How long their inventory will last (or whether they can get more) is
anybody's guess.

I've dealt with iec.net in the past and had pretty good success with them on DB-19 and DB-23 connectors. Their inventory does run out sometimes, but they order batch replenishment and will happily tell you when their next order will be (if they know) for a given item. Not sure about the backing plates. They have so many different connector-related items that you'll have to search around.
