I am updating the unix 'file' command to identify the new WOZ disk
image format and at the same time I thought I would update the 2MG
detection magic.

The only documentation I can find is here
http://apple2.org.za/gswv/a2zine/Docs/DiskImage_2MG_Info.txt

which details the following Creator ID's

XGS! XGS
WOOF Sweet 16
ShIm Sheppy's ImageMaker
CTKG Catakig
B2TR Bernie ][ the Rescue
!nfc ASIMOV 2

I have identified the following as well

>BD< Brutal Deluxe's Cadius
CdrP CiderPress
Vi][ Virtual ][

Does anybody know what software was used to create 2MG images with the
following ID's ?

SHEP
RVLW
pdos

Thanks

ProFUSE (mkfs-profuse) uses PRFS.

Could be. I could only find reference to "ShIm" in the documentation
though.

Thanks,

It is. I downloaded the latest code, created an image with it, and
looked at the header. it's 'SHEP'.

RVLW = Revival for Windows, one of the first utilities to create and
convert to/from 2MG. The copy I have is v0.20 (c) 1997, by Thomas Fok.

< http://mirrors.apple2.org.za/apple.cabi.net/GS.Emulators/XGS .DOS.rvlw020.zip.INFO.txt>

Archived site:
< https://web.archive.org/web/19990427052352/http://www.glink. net.hk/~thomas/revival.htm>

AppleWin had issues with images created with this program:
<https://github.com/AppleWin/AppleWin/issues/317>

Archived early 2IMG format specs:
< https://web.archive.org/web/19981206023530/http://www.magnet .ch:80/emutech/Tech/>

Regarding the 2IMG format itself. It was created in a series of
comp.emulator.apple2 newsgroup posts by F.E. Systems' Henrik Gudat and
XGS author Joshua M. Thompson. Prior to its creation, there was no
standardized image format for ProDOS hard drives and 800k floppies as
XGS and Bernie used their own special formats which have since died off.
8-bit Apple II emulators at the time only really supported 5.25" images
(po, dsk, nib).

Do AppleCommander and ADTPro have their own creation strings? They can
manipulate 2IMG files too.

For historical reference, here is the original thread that resulted in
the 2IMG format.

Neither AC nor ADTPro create .2mg files, so they don't ever modify the
header.
