hi there.
i could not find a solution for the following problem:
large, more or less modern hard disks have to be splitted into smaller
partitions for 68k macs < system 8, is’nt it?
if i want to select a different volume/partition via the start volume
control panel, this sometimes works, but usually not. (in such szenario
my desired volume/partition is ignored and the mac boots from the
previous „running“ volume/partition.)
i’ve tested different systems, formatting tools and settings, but i
could not figure out how to fix it?
i’m using different machines and osses for my tasks, but if you’re
asking for: i would like to use this feature for example on a quadra 700
and 7.5.
thank you,
jan

I suspect there may be a limitation in how far into the drive the partition can be to still be readable by the boot ROM. Installing a third party HDD driver (such as Silverlining) might possibly help here, but no promises.
Repartitioning to use smaller "system" volumes and separate "data" volumes might also help, rather than making each volume maximum size.
