Some software like Appleworks can use or be patched to use a slinky card.

You can have either Premium Softcard and Slinky RAM, or RamWorks style RAM and a Softcard or Applicard. Personally, I prefer the Applicard style Z80 boards to the Softcard style, but I don't use either anywhere near enough to have them permanently installed.

Hi Thomas,

I have one of these for sale:

Call-A.P.P.L.E. BIG-BOARD (1 MB) RAM Card (ADON CORP. SSD DM-1000)

at:

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/comp.sys.apple2.mark etplace/sj2KiKimgOs

I bought it from A.P.P.L.E. Co-op, 290 S.W. 43rd St., Renton, WA 98055, decades ago. (Paid between $180.00 to $200.00 for it, way back when, if I remember correctly.)

Features:

• Mine is a fully populated, one megabyte, memory expansion card, compatible with Apple II, II+, IIe. (It uses standard 256K, 150 nanosecond RAM chips.)
• It can be used in any slot (except Apple IIe slot 3)
• It has plenty of room for those BIG spreadsheets and all AppleWorks™ files
• PLUS-WORKS XM™ COMPATIBLE for using AppleWorks™ on the Apple II+ with desktop space of (up to) 1024K
• DUAL OPERATING MODES--Bank switched memory allows the programmer to run code and store data on the Big Board, while Byte mode is ideal for data storage
• LOW POWER CONSUMPTION (less than 500 milliamps with one megabyte configuration)

Features it came with [probably on a 5.25 inch floppy (I'll have to find it {an easy task})]:

• RAMDISK SOFTWARE for DOS 3.3, ProDOS, Pascal 1.2, Microsoft Softcard compatible CP/M--(PCPI driver sold separately)
• MENUWORKS™ TURNKEY SYSTEM for DOS 3.3 and ProDOS, RAM disk drivers, complete with menu editor. ("Turnkey" eliminates the hassle of copying files to your RAM disk.)
