Hi I have An iMac that just won’t turn on and be willing to send it to someone for shipping fees. I had three experiences with an Apple Store the first tech said oh it’s out of warranty and couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t turning on. I had a gut feeling about it so I kept it I took it to another Apple store, same response. I was on my way to Rome Massachusetts, and I stopped at this little shop and he took a look at it. Unplugged it. Blew out the dust from the plug. And it worked fine. But recently it was unable to turn on so I’m thinking that rather than try and throwing it away that I would give it to somebody who might be able to use the parts or something. I would just it’s pretty heavy. I would just need payment for shipping unless you unless you live near me. I’m in Matamoros Pennsylvania.

Which model of iMac? The ones with a PowerPC CPU are pretty useless these days, especially for online stuff since all the web browsers have dropped support for the last OS X version that runs on them.

That still makes them among the fastest Macs capable of running Classic MacOS; though they're not as expandable as the tower models, they're slightly more portable. For some people, that's worth having.

Also, you can still run Linux on them; PowerPC iMacs are some of the easier all-in-one machines to get working, complete with modern Web browsers. The older ATI graphics chipsets used in PPC-era iMacs are relatively well-supported under Linux, and are considered pretty good for 2D graphics even now. Granted, their 3D capabilities leave something to be desired, but if you want to play 3D games, you want a *new* machine to do that.

Come on, guys - this is the Vintage Macs list after all. People are still using System 6 on their Mac Plus and liking it. An iMac is pure luxury.

Hi yes and before it stopped working I was able to access the web no problem so I’m not sure what the other person was referring to. It’s been so long since I’ve had it on that I think it w the version was 8. Not sure. But yes if you wast to drive all that way. I’m in Matamoras Pa. Let me know if you still want to do that.
