Does anybody own one? Has anyone ever seen one? I know they're rare (they were only produced for a few months, according to Wikipedia), but this is ridiculous. Does anyone have any advice to find an Apple III Plus, other than eBay? What other sites are there for hunting for Apple computers?

A year is not very long in this game, tbh. You probably saw a couple of
plain old /// machines come up for sale in that time; if I were to put
odds on it, I'd say you will see 10 plain ones for sale before seeing
one plus. (Or, one might just show up tomorrow. Both supply and demand
are completely chaotic.) Plus, queries are slightly harder because they
could be III, ///, III+, IIIPlus, III Plus, etc. I don't find eBay's
query to be particularly deterministic when faced with these non-text
variations that are significant.

I've got one. I sat and waited for several years, and had to pass on
one or two because of price, too. I'm sure that will only get worse
over time. My advice is to look everywhere - I don't think my query for
the Tiger Learning Computer (a sanctioned clone that is pretty hard to
come by) has ever fired in the 10 years I've been running it on eBay. I
ended up finding one from someone on one of the several random boards
(68KMLA, VCFED, AtariAge, etc) that I keep on rotation. You just never
know where or when stuff will show up. You're depending on someone
discovering a thing in their closet and deciding to try to sell it.
It's not like there's a warehouse somewhere with these things in it
waiting for us.

I have a nice, clean ///+ here. It was a very lucky find back in the late
90s. No question they are rare.

Yes. Amazing classic computer finds are about as close to random as it is
possible to get. And, all my best ones (Lisa 2/5, 1978 Apple ][ and the ///+)
were freebies I tripped over locally.. Go figure!

Patience and a constant presence on the forums are critical ingredients. Last
month I finally scored a Corvus "Engineering" Omninet interface for Z80
computers. My search for this device spanned almost 28 years.

Now you've got me intrigued.

What are the specs of the ///+? How is it different from a regular ///? What makes it so special? Is it compatible with the II? How much do they cost? Probably $10k+ in today's crazy, greedy, rapacious market.

It is so rare that I've never seen one, after being in the scene for 40 years.

God, you're sitting on a gold mine there! About $50k or more in "current" (ie, greatly inflated, greedy prices).... Sell those or buy a house! Well, you're a lucky fellow!

One of the biggest advantages is the 65c02 processor for the III+ where the III only has the 6502. I have been waiting for one to come my way for a while now as well. But it is all about location, location, location. The odds are against me.

Hardly. Lisa 2/5 machines average 1-1.2k on eBay. The highest price I've
ever seen for a 4-digit serial number Apple ][ was ~4k. The ///+ is probably
a $1-2k item at best. Not too shabby, but a far cry from $50k.

Anyway, I'm not interested in selling any of them - so moot point.

If I could find one in Burlington, VT (the middle of a technical desert), then
there is hope no matter where you are.

I would be happy at finding a normal /// that I could afford. Heck, I thought about trading my Amiga 1200 for one. Even though people think I'm crazy for wanting one so bad.

Out of the 4 Apple IIIs I have, one is a Plus. I have one running and have been meaning to fix the others. Two have bad RAM. I'll look at the III Plus once I have all the other 3 running. Might take a while as I'm not really an Apple III enthusiast.

You should send one of them to me. In return, you will get the largest thank you post the world has ever seen. LMAO!

LOL
Have you tried turning it off and back on again?
Try lifting the back end up 3 inches and dropping it back down again. (Powered off, monitor and HD stacked off to the side.)
:)

If only it were 2006 again...

"Today, used Apple IIIs are valued at around $50-250 depending on condition and extras."

Haha!

That's nonsense for 2006. It was barely true in the mid-90s when I picked up
my III for about $200.
