[Might have told this before.] Years ago we had a timesharing
system based on a CDC 6400. One day a kid spent a long time
entering a program. When he tried to save it, the system
burped and lost it. The kid was not happy, and he typed in
an expletive as a command. It turned out all commands appeared
on the central system console (a circular CRT), and the operator
took great offense.

[Discussed in the past]. I remain amazed that CDC got a huge
windfall from the settlement with IBM, yet still managed to
go out of business.

I believe the official term for this is
"snatching defeat from the jaws of victory".
