“Jikken-hin Kazoku: Creatures Family Days”, aka, “Frankenstein Family”, aka, “Shiyan Pin Jiating” is a 15 minute fantasy anime series from China that is based upon a Chinese web manga. I watched the first episode in Japanese. Apparently there is a Mandarin-dubbed version out there too.

Two brothers and three sisters are left to fend for themselves after their parents are arrested as mad scientists. The parents experimented on four of their children: the oldest boy who now can change back and forth into a dog, one girl who has both spider and human characteristics, one girl who has plant characteristics and one girl who is a telepath. The youngest son was left “normal” as the control. Now the five kids live on their own in the regular world with the youngest son trying to get his brother and sisters to behave “normally”.

The first episode was reasonably well done, with nice animation and good backgrounds. The dim sum in the restaurant looked so real that I got hungry just looking at it. I don't know if the story will hold up since it appears to be going for comedy and pathos simultaneously. But I'll stick around for another episode or so just to see where it goes. My initial rating is C+.
