I found occasion to stop by the Kinokinya manga shop at Webster and
Geary today. I bought nothing today but I wanted to tell you that
I saw some interesting stuff.
A hard cover Dragonball in Color!
Another hard cover of Battle Angel Alita! Checked the price and BAA is
at $29.95.
Seem to be lots of classic manga coming out including Gundam
books.

If you are in the neighborhood I think the manga shop deserves a visit.
Maybe after you pick up Poky at the Ichiban Kan or the Super Mira.
Don't forget to check out the New People building.

The manga section of Kinokuniya is always crowded with tourists every time I
visit. I still can't bring myself to spend ten dollars for a regular TPB
and end up walking over to Western Addition library and check out manga from
there.

I have also seen "remake" Dragonball manga where they hire another artists
to redraw everything aping the original artist. The earlier volumes of
Dragonball are quite raunchy and they tend to edit those sections out for
political correctness. Strangely, they draw everyone in same proportion as
Goku as kid so adult characters are deformed.

Well I think I know what you mean about crowded with tourists
but also on weekends with local kids and some adults. You haven't been
checking the prices lately as the lowest prices on the translated
manga are running $12.99 before tax. I used to go by the WA branch
Library all the time but since my left knee started hurting in 2015
I have not been getting around as well. I borrowed most of the
Japanese live action films that I could find from there.

The editing for the US market is annoying.

Do I need to say that the opportunity to exchange a few words
with you has been one of the highlights of my last month, Kenneth.
I spent the last full week of February and the first week of March
resting mostly with a very bad cold. Too tired to find interesting
new manga online.

For translated manga you are being charged American comics prices. DC and
Marvel regularly charge $3.99 for (mere) twenty-two pages. The original
Japanese manga at least comes in a dust jacket.

Sales tax are very unnerving. If you go to a restaurant, you pay 10% taxes
and 15% tip so something listed as $15 ends up nearly $20.

Can't beat political correctness. I wonder they censored the nudities when
they showed these anime on Cartoon Network.

Considering that every single book is shrink-wrapped, it's amazing how many
customers are hanging out at the manga section as it doesn't not allow
browsing. Kinokuniya also have their own barcodes so I wonder how much
extra labor cost is involved in putting on a barcode sticker and shrink-
wrapping every single book. And I wonder if they have a central location to
process the books or if they are done at each store after shipment.
