Thankyou, John, a very good analysis, and in some ways matches my own
experience having been brought up in the Christian tradition; my great
grandfather having been one of the originators of a strict Welsh
Methodist chapel midway between the two pubs in the village, the Peniel
Chapel in Foelgastell; and I in the Church of England having been
variously choirboy, altar server, part-time verger and latterly
bellringer (Not campanologist to the cognoscenti!) but was sitting
listening to the sermon one day and the thought struck me that it
was all complete nonsense without foundation and since that time
have been a devout atheist.
But as to lunacy, the almost-infantile temper tantrums of the Muslims
when challenged are not those of well-adjusted adults, which brings me
onto another philosophical point, and that is, if something is
true, then it does not need any form of violence to enforce it, a fault
that historically has been in the Christians as well as the Muslims, and
to a certain extent in the democratic process, viz, the seminal attempt
by one state legislature to define PI as being 3.
