Fixed facial recognition cameras have been in use to catch beer
festival-going criminals in China, and now the technology is
being mounted onto wearable glasses to eliminate any blind spots
for crimes. Since the beginning of China’s Lunar New Year
travel season, police at Zhengzhou East Railway Station have
caught seven fugitives in connection with major criminal
cases and identified 26 people attempting to travel using
other people’s IDs, according to People's Daily, China's
official state newspaper.

How soon before the technology is used in the U.S. (if not
already)?

Predictions:
Within 10-20 years, some kind of terrorist attack or other
criminal act were serve as the motivation to equip people
with an ID chip. (It will be "voluntary", but one won't
be able to function without it.)
Within ten years, automobiles will be equipped with a
transponder ID chip, sort of like EZPASS, but not alterable.
