Everyone who's ever used a Commodore 64 knows the standard greeting of "COMMODORE 64 BASIC V2 64K RAM SYSTEM 38911 BASIC BYTES FREE". However, I've seen an upgraded version of BASIC for the C64 floating around somewhere on the Internet. Can someone point me in the right direction as to where I might find it?

Maybe you should search for "Simons Basic" - A Basic Extension that had been very popular.

There is also a Japanese version of the C64 which hails with a slightly
different message concerning BASIC bytes free.

If a "better" BASIC is needed I'd use a C128 - if available.

I may recommend TSB - Tuned Simon's BASIC - faster and without all the bugs from the original SB.

https://www.c64-wiki.de/wiki/TSB (sorry there is only a german article), see also

https://www.c64-wiki.com/wiki/Simons%27_BASIC
and

The german equivalent of this page, https://www.c64-wiki.de/wiki/Kategorie:BASIC-Erweiterung
refers to quite more BASIC expansions ...
