I am looking to borrow a C64 MIDI cart for a few weeks to debug the
VIC-MIDI cart I'm working on. Would pay shipping both ways. Tried to
debug with PC and with my wife's electronic piano, but not having a lot
of luck with either (PC is not sending out MIDI, keyboard seems to be
sending too much, and I'd rather not try to get a USB MIDI cable working
on my PC right now).

Are you seeing a lot of 0xfe bytes? Many midi devices send those a few
times per second to indicate to the receiving device that it's still online.

I am, but more importantly, I am not seeing 0x90 for the key down, and 0x80 for
the key up for keyboard presses. As such, the MIDI SW is not outputting any
sound.

James might be sending one, so I'll hold off on asking you to send yours
just yet.

Last weekend, I was disgusted with the old PC I keep around for such
things, as it would not send out MIDI on the MIDI port, so I (in true
hacker fashion) hacked up the bench project (PS2Encoder) at hand to pipe
data to the MID cart. MIDI is mostly RS232, so things were not tough.
I sent a bunch of commands to the cart and managed to get sounds from
the VIC-20. Since I knew the cart worked, I tested it on my wife's
Yamaha KBand it was ailing. Giving the information to Leif, he was able
to reproduce the issue on his end, and is preparing a codefix.

The unit somewhat interesting, because it has a programmable FLASH IC on
board, which means it can double as a game cart as well :-) Right now,
it just holds the MIDI SW.

But, I still want to test it with a 64 MIDI cart, since it's MIDI
command optimizations that are tripping things up.

I'll keep it in mind, in case folks get busy and can't get the carts out.

I know Leif would like to see this prj done and available, as we've been
working on it since 2009 or so.

Jim & Others,

I just mailed out the Sonus MIDI interface. Jim, With a little luck you
should have it by Wednesday. I included a pair of MIDI cables just in
case they were needed. There's also a copy of Score Track on floppy. I
make some time to scan a copy of the manual (I only own one) this week.

Good Luck,

-Jim

Awesome teamwork guys. This pleases me to see us come together like this.
Just as info, the midi cart I have is a Dr. Evil Labs.

Good luck with the troubleshooting!

Ken,

Did Dr. Evil Labs make a MIDI interface or are you confusing it with a
Dr. T's MIDI interface?

Robert,

Score Track is the MIDI sequencing software that Sonus produced along
side their MIDI interface.
