[hi mom]

I am thinking of buying a Star Micronics Powertype printer.
Does anyone have comments about this printer or other daisy wheel
printers in the 300-600 dollar price range.

Try the Juki 1600 for size.. It is a nice LQ printer @ 18cps. It runs
about $450 and add ~$50. for serial interface. It uses printer wheels
used for Brother typewriters, so they are easy to get. It also used IBM
selectric ribbons. The tractor feed runs an extra $50.
Standard memory is 2K, but for $15. and some soldering you can add an extra
6K.

I have a friend who has the Powertype, using it with his Kaypro.
In general he has made very favorable comments about it. His few
gripes are : doesn't have auto sheet load as the Juki does,
and it is not exactly Diablo 630 compatible at least as far as
Wordstar is concerned. Also, for some reason, Wordstar runs the
printer at a slower rate than what appears to be it's max, altho
I suspect it is due to micro spacing being active. Overall, a very
good printer for moderate workloads at a pretty good price (<$400).
