(Responding to a significantly older post due to retention on my ISP's
Usenet server...)

As previously mentioned--the Raiden Project is Raiden and Raiden II done by
Seibukaihatsu for the PS1 (PSOne). Awesome arcade perfect versions for
almost everything, only that the Raiden II music differs slightly from the
redbook type CD audio found in the Cyberfront/Interplay PC version of Raiden
II. This leads me to believe Raiden II music was recreated, rather than
directly ported from the arcade version--it's certainly not at all bad but
is also not note-for-note the same as the redbook type CD audio. I
understand the Raiden Project uses yellowbook type CD audio as opposed to
redbook CD audio? There are also remixed versions of the music for both
Raiden and Raiden II available, in addition to the normal music.

Raiden III is done by Moss with credit to Seibukaihatsu. In addition to the
PS2 version, the arcade version apparently runs on Taito Type X hardware.

Raiden III differs from Raiden II in the following ways:

* Collecting any powerup increases the firing strength of the current weapon
in use, up to maximum firepower--no need to collect only the same color
powerup like in Raiden or Raiden II.
* All weapons are autofire as long as the button is held down.
* The laser is a straight ahead continuous beam that follows the ship
motion--while remaining in a straight line--for as long as the fire button
is held down.
* There is a guided green laser. The guided green laser can only be steered
to curve slightly left or right as it fires and does not turn on itself like
the Raiden II purple laser did. It can also remain straight for as long as
the ship does not move.
* In addition to M (nuclear) and H (homing) missiles, there are also R
(radar missiles) that launch initially straight and veer over left or right
towards the target the missile are locked on to. These radar missiles do not
chase backward like homing missiles do.
* There are only fire bombs available, and there is no cluster bomb like in
Raiden II.

There is also a Raiden IV, but I only played it twice in an arcade so I
don't have any significant information about Raiden IV.
