“Houkago Teibou Nisshi” aka “Afterschool Embankment Journal” is a new “cute girls” anime that has actually caught my interest because it is about Fishing! A first year high school girl moves with her family to a small rural seaside town where she gets roped into joining her new school’s fishing club. Her clubmates start to show her how to fish and she quickly becomes caught up in the fun.

The first episode was actually more about the details of fishing and how to teach a newbie how to fish than it was about the usual Cute Girl shenanigans. As long as the series keeps up like this I’ll be more than happy to follow along. I still do “embankment” fishing whenever I can, and so many years ago if my high school had had a Fishing Club I would have joined it too. (There was a Surfing club there that became a varsity sport, but fishing was never cool enough…)

So in a Spring when the Government has decided that I can’t go outside to fish, and when so many other new anime are dead-bait-on-a-hot-dock, I’ll happily watch this series. My initial rating is B.
