You're looking for 168-pin, 5-volt SDRAM, not 3.3-volt DDR SDRAM (DDR,
DDR2, etc.)

I think it came in 3 speeds: PC66, PC100 and PC133.. U want PC133 ideally;
PC100 will work also.

Thanx for the trip down memory lane!

You may be thinking of Beige G3 the next step up from the 9600 for the PC 66,100 or 133 RAM sticks --but they are 3.3 volt.

You are correct that that the 9600 needs 5 volt 168-pin DIMMs which may be more difficult to find.

--but then maybe I am unaware of 5 volt PC 66, 100 or 133 RAM. Hard to trust my memory these days. --glen

No, U were right. I'm the one w/ the compromised memory!

I was mixing my metaphores(!) right voltage -- WRONG designation(!) It was
the early Beige PowerMac G3s I *was* thinking about that uses the PC100/133
ram, which is 3.3v.

(And after I sent my 1st response to this post, I was sitting up thinking
"why would the 9600 and Beige G3s use the same RAM?" OF course they do
NOT!)

I too have a 7600 and a Beige G3 - and used this occasion to fire up
both(!) after I responded to the post ... and discoverd/remembered that the 7600
took ram different from my Beige G3 desktop. The biggest denominations
those 70ns 168-pin DIMMs in the last PowerMac Desktops came in were 128mb; mine
is littered(!) with 32 and 64mb dimms... (8 slots. Wow...)

Then I remembered -- that was the "Fat RAM" as I used to call it -- the
168-pin Dimms that usually had those larger chips on it. And the offset
notches from the 3.3v(!).

----------------

So, as far as I can tell, the 9600 ram is designated by it's 168-pin
config, speed (70ns) and voltage (5v). I seem to remember that finding 60ns
versions of the same memory was desirable, too.

* Now as far as the difference between EEC, non-EEC or EDO(!) version of
the above? Someone else will have to help w/ that(!).
