I went to access the account using details from 2012 and wasn't able to.
Does anyone know the current pwd details.

There is no password for csa2, it is just one of the thousands of Usenet
news groups available from the many news servers worldwide that carry
it.
The method you use to get there however, may involve a paid for news
server, and so that may have a password that would be unique to you.
What method are you using to read the Usenet news groups?

I didn't know there was a gmail account that accessed csa2. I know
Google carry some of the Usenet groups, but I have only ever accessed
them by using a full Usenet news server...

The purpose of the gmail account in question wasn’t to access csa2. It was
to allow members of csa2 to access the account, where IIRC some files were
stored and made accessible to all, as the login details had been published
in csa2.
Unfortunately, I can’t help with the current details or even the status of
the account.

Me either. I had even put my email as a recovery email but it wouldn't let me verify even with the code it sent. Not sure what to do from here.

David, that's not good if it won't let you in with a verify code to a listed recovery email address.
Of the recovery questions, the best I could work out is the account was created in Feb 2005.

That's correct. I've got both of those passwords written down and saved
in my browser, but obviously, neither now works.
Wasn't this originally set up by the late Paul Santa-Maria? I know he
placed odd things (that no one else had) there for me at times.

The last reference I can find with someone being able to access it is Nov 2013.

Yes, it was set up by Paul. Since he's passed away, perhaps someone
notified google and they locked the account.
