If it cannot be opened in either program, nor in any of the Apple II or Windows emulators, then it probably is a damaged image of one sort or the other.

I wish programs weren't extension-sensitive because for those floppy
disks, I use the "144" extension.

Exactly. *.IMG can mean almost anything.

I'm not quite clear about which floppy images you use the 144 extension on?

A. The Apple II images [*]?
or
B. The Windows VFD images [*]?

[*] on DOS-3.3(?) or ProDOS(?) or Windows 9x~10(?) O.S.?

I suspect you mean the latter (in all cases), but I'm not sure.

Please explain.

For PC disk images, I use the .360, .720 and .144 extension, based on
their disk size.

I use .HDV for both Apple and IBM (QEMU) hard disk images, and
differentiate based on the fact that all my Apple HDVs are in one folder
and my IBM ones in another.

Thanks for the clarification.

Did you fix the Windows Registry for the PC disk image numbered extensions to point to the same entry as .vfd does or did you do something else for them individually?

I don't. =p

95% of the time I operate from the command line.
