Greetings! I am taking part in the beta for the new run of Uthernet II devices. And by taking part, I mean that I am testing the device in my ROM01 IIgs. So I have installed SNAP2 Usenet from Speccie's page and now here I am!

Install the newsreader of your choice on the Raspberry Pi and you should be
able to read and post, same as any other Linux box.
(Raspbian doesn't appear to have trn available. :-( It probably wouldn't
take much to build it from source, though.)

One thing I (probably only I) would like to do is write a
ModemWorks/ProLine Port/Modem driver for the Uthernet II. You
could run an internet-enabled BBS, but you could also run
ProLine in single-user mode, hooked up to a UMDSS server to
send/receive email and usenet.
(This is posted through an emulator running ProLine, then passed
to an UMDSS server.)

Yes please!
Actually, Glenn mentioned you the other day as a person who perhaps we could ask for some help with a bug in Marinetti. Are you interested in helping with that at all?

Something I wanted to ask you Ewen, is SNAP supposed to remember when I have marked a message as read? I am using EternalSeptember for an NNTP server, if that makes a difference. When I mark all messages as read, and then I close and open the group list, it shows them all as unread again.
Either way, I love checking USENET on the IIgs. (I'm on a 2009 iMac at the moment, faster, but not as fun.)

Check Page 27 of the PDF Manual. It shows you there how to set the "Mark
Last Read" flag.
Note that SNAP was up[ated on the 30th of May. It cleared a few bugs,
and added support for the Undo Manager.

Thanks. I will check out the manual for certain. I downloaded SNAP from your site very recently, but I will make sure it is up to date.

This is a posting test, as I have not posted from SNAP for a long time...

And - as always - you can replace the SuperSerialCard + ProTerm combo with
the Uthernet(II) + Telnet combo.

Oliver

Running on the very latest (this week) build and problem is solved! Messages are marked read appropriately now. Bare-Metal Usenet works very well!
Thanks Ewen!
