Hi,

I just purchased a mac classic recently at a yard sale and it works but
only if i let it sit for while unplugged and doesnt chime so i decided to
get to the bottom of the problem and after a little bit of research found
out that the problem may be the capictors near the sound chip so i opened
the mac and sure enough the battery had leaked and there was corrosion all
in that area so i need to recap that area but while i was scrubbing the
board with a toothbrush and some isobrifil alchohol one of the capacitors
fell apart and another part labeled Y1 on the board fell off i can figure
out what caps i need but what is the Y1 part?

If you need more info (like pictures) just let me know.

Thanks

Ok thanks do you know what specs the crystal needs to be to work in the
mac, and is the crystal necissary for the mac to run?

Look for part number 197-0549, its a 15.6672MHz CTS oscillator.
Hope this helps,
Keith

Sorry, Zach, I should have added that the crystal is vital for the Mac Classic to run.
Can I ask, why are you asking about the crystal, is it missing or damaged?
