Hi Typers and Readers,
I have finished reading 2 of the Lisa Shearin stories featuring
characters like Mackenna Fraser of the Supernatural Protection and
Investigation agency. She is a seer extraordinary and in the world
where a Dragon heads the agency and a Vampire is the legal defender,
we have all the traditional supernaturals. Grendels, leprechauns,
elves, gnomes, goblins, zombies, werewolves, traditional demons
ghouls, etc. ad infitum. She has somehow attracted the benign attention
of the most handsome goblin in NYC who is a dark mage.
A seer can see though the various subterfuges the supernatural
beings can employ to hide their existence from the humans in
this interesting world.

These stories run to <300 pages in paperback.
I think they would make good anime movies and excellent manga.

We used to cover this topic at least once a year.

Well, any of mine would, I think.

And of course especially my forthcoming Magical Girl novel, _Princess
Holy Aura_.

David Weber's _Mutineer's Moon_ would be an awesome anime, and it
actually almost DID get made into one.

The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher would be tailor-made for an anime
treatment.

Have to agree with you about the Dresden Files. The Dresden Files are
not only readable but re-readable. A complex universe with
the gritty feel of reality.

I just read a Brandon Sanderson book entitled Arcanum. it was a collection of shorter works collected into one of his doorstoppers, but one of them was a novella about a character from his Stormlight series, Lift, who could easily be a anime heroine. She's a very genki teenager with a variety of superpowers that include control over friction, has to eat huge amounts of food to fuel her powers, has a funny shapeshifting sidekick, a mascot who gave her the powers...

And here is another I just finished a short time back.
Blood Oranges a short novel by Caitlin R. Tiernan
writing as Kathleen Tierney.
The lead character, a junkie, gets caught up in the conflict
between a demon level character and an elder vampire who
turns her to a vampire as she is being attacked by a werewolf.
She survives the action but of course is changed considerably.
I think someone like the group that did "Dead Leaves" could
do well by this story despite it being more upbeat.

Do you mean the Brandon Sanderson that took over writing the Wheel of
Time series after Robert Jordan died?

If so, I think that series, the Wheel of Time would make a good animated
movie.

Perhaps the first of the novels would be a better choice since the
novels are 800-1000 pages long and all but the first and presumably the
last end with a sort of "to be continued."

The first novel ends with what appears to be the "bad guy" being
defeated, but since the book was a best seller, and the publisher
decided to extend the contract, in the next book, it was revealed that
who was defeated was one of the main bad guy's henchmen, not the main
bad guy himself, and all the rest of the novels, except the last one
(the 14th, which I am currently reading), all end with a sort of "to be
continued" ending.

Although it has been given an animated treatment (perhaps several), I
don't think an anime movie has been made of Lord of the Rings, and I
think it would.

I also think the Dragonriders of Pern would also make a neat anime
movie, and if I recall correctly, they are comparatively short novels so
perhaps they could be combined into 1 movie, or at least the first 3
could (before Anne McCaffry started writing a bunch of sequels/prequels/
side stories).

This may be an aside, since neither one is anime or based on a novel (so
far as I can tell), but I also like the movies Cool World and Wizards by
Ralph Bahski(SP?).

The E-mail associated with the account is a "spamcatcher" account that I
got to every couple of months to empty out, and anything sent to it will
not be seen for probably several months, if it is seen at all.

I'm...pretty sure it doesn't. Are you mixing it up with Wizards First Rule? Rand fights what are clearly underbosses in Eye of the World.
