"Isn't there anybody?" Plagiarized from Orson Wells radio broadcast of
"The War of the Worlds".

I'm following along, more from nostalgia than anything else. Sure not
much going on here.

I used to run an 8-Bit BBS in the Edmonton area called 'Apache'. Worked
with an Atari club in Edmonton called 'TAC'. Still have my original
800XL from 1985 and all it's parts, a few extra 8-bits collected since.
Haven't hooked them up or turned them on in years now. Afraid they may
not work anymore. Run emmulation now and then to play a few games. I
loved programming in Action! and still have the Cart and Runtime disks.

Did sell off the MIO board, 30mb hard drive and R-Time8 cart after the
BBS switched over to PC and wish I never did, but emmulation can do all
these things without putting real hardware at risk of failure.

Keep on 8-bittin'

It's not just here, all of the newsgroups that I'm subscribed to are dead.

I always wanted to run a BBS when I was younger but never got around to
it for various reasons.

I still have all of my old 800XLs as well. Only one worked the last
time I checked. It's been a while since I've done anything Atari 8-bit
related.

Always wanted a one megabyte MIO as well. But, alas, it was more than
my budget allowed.

I'm just getting back into the 8-bit. I'd like to teach myself some
6502 assembly. The 800XL is fun to play with.

I've got 2 800's and lots of stuff for them, wish I had a place to set
them up to see if they would still work.

One of them is my first computer.

Maybe someday.

Yes, the USENET isn't quite what it used to be in the 90's and early
2000's. Too much traffic at web-based discussion groups and such.

I had the 256K MIO board, mostly as a hard drive interface. Used it for
a RAM disk of course. Hooked to a 2400baud modem, 30mb hard drive all
jammed into an older style PC desktop case of early/mid eighties
vintage with the flip-top lid. A 600XL with 64mb RAM and a small (4")
B&W TV ran the BBS on a single phone line 24/7. Sold the entire thing
for $1000 at the time after thinking I should be running my BBS on the
PC or ST instead of the 8-bit. Should never have switched it from that
8-Bit BBS Express! Pro. It was a wonderful year or so I ran the 8-bit
version of the BBS. By 1992 I had lost interest in keeping it all going
and shut it down. Turned into more of a role-playing gaming related BBS
at that point in time.

Learned very little about 6502 coding, though I did like keying in the
MAC/65 listings. Spent nearly $100 back then to get the MAC/65 cart.
Still have all that. WIth online resources and such, learning 6502
should be a lot easier (with cross-compilers now too).

I remember a few years ago, a company was selling large posters which
were basically the assembly code for 2600 games printed out, with loops
and jumps shown in arcing lines. Were quite the impressive site. If
anyone knows what I'm talking of please drop me a link. Thanks.
