Smallest batch run therefore will be 10 boards .. Cost probably around $40 US.
Boards will be ready in around 2-3 weeks.
If need is there, I do more boards. So please let me know if anyone is interested.
I will also do at least 10 full GAL sets. Fastest speed -7ns
Same for the TWGS Cache board. Fastest SRAMS at -7ns (theoretically pushing the max speed to 31MHz, but no appropriate 31MHz capable 65SC816 is available :) :) )

That was the fastest SRAMS 32KBx8 I could find, cost more than the -12 and -10 but, I think what the heck.... Let's upgrade do it proper :)

Hi Alex, do you repair TWGS and/ or ZIP GSX? I have a defective TWGS that i had revived 2 years ago and that has died again a few months back, the same happened with the ZIP (i had 4 of them and the last one died now as well).. I also have some of the last 32k cache boards that Joachim Lange produced.. Maybe you are interested ;-)

So what exactly is all involved in updating a Transwarp GS? I believe mine is a stock 7MHz model.

First check the following:
a) What firmware version do you have 1.5 or 1.8 ?
b) What does your CDA report do you have 8KB or 32KB Cache
The upgrade consists of:
a) replacing the 8KB Cache board biggyback board with the 32KB and the firmware 1.8S
b) upgrading the 65SC8126 CPU and the Oscillator
c) cutting two traces in the back of the TWGS board
d) replacing the existing GALs with the newest version GALs / fastest speed
All in all it is fairly easy.

Not sure where to check the cache, but I'm going to say it's probably 8K. The ROM is 1.5W

If it is 1.5W it is 8KB. 32KB will raise your performance quite substantially. The boards will have the 1.8S firmware on it

I thought with the Transwarp it was either on or off? I didn't think you could adjust the speed like a ZIP chip.

It's true to say I'm much more familiar with the ZipGS. It has been
many, MANY years since I used a TWGS and quickly referencing it's
manual (http://www.whatisthe2gs.apple2.org.za/transwarpgs) there don’t
seem to be any options for finer speed control. However, the TWGS
Reporter CDev, as detailed on Ultimate Micro’s site, mentions fine
control can be had through this control panel
( https://ultimateapple2.com/forums/forum/main-forum/transwarp -gs/315-transwarp-gs-software)
You can find that CDev on my System Add-ons 32 meg volume from What is
the Apple IIGS?

When you run 8 bit games you still need to drop back to normal 1MHz speed, but all the IIgs OS stuff become snappy. The accelerator still drops down to normal speed when the IIgs shifts down. I've never had an instance to turn it back to 2.8MHz mode once I compared fast vs Transwarp speed. I found the 32k cache speeds up the IIgs as much as boosting the clock rate. Granted I never got mine much past 11MHz, but the 7 with 32k was just as snappy at 11 with 8k. Btw the built in control panel is all you really need, turn the board off when acceleration buggers your gaming, it's just a keystroke away.

I will count you in, seems like 10 GAL sets and 10 Cache boards will satisfy the needs... I am currently finishing up the board layout and will order PCBs and parts during the cause of this week. Keep you posted.

Andrew, if it's only GALs you need, I could probably burn you a set?
BTW: I don't need any GALs with the 32Kb cache board as I burnt my own GAL set earlier this year - at which time I could use a 70MHz oscillator giving my TWGS 17.5MHz. Prior to doing the GAL update, I don't think the system would even post with the 70MHz oscillator installed. I've had my Transwarp running at 17.5MHz for probably nearly 6 months now, and it all seems quite stable (not had any crashes).
Cheers,
Mike
