Subject says it all. ;-)
My host is Linux and I run the CUPS printing system. Still trying to
produce something readable when printing from the machine (VICE
2.4.dfsg+2.4.20-1). Besides having no luck (some programs print garbage,
some nothing at all) I experience crashes by VICE itself. More or less
randomly, but when I try hard enough (repeated printing attempts from
within the machine) VICE eventually will crash. To be clear, it's not the
machine (the emulated Commodore 64 in this case) which crashes.
In the case below I was using the program Writer's Choice. I yet have to
find another program I have on disk which is able to print to see what
happens there.
I could capture some (Linux) console printout. Here are the last lines
before it sends me back to the command prompt:
AUTOSTART: Loading program '*'
AUTOSTART: Starting program.
AUTOSTART: Done.
Serial Interface: Error - Flush printer #4,7 while closed - ignoring.
Serial Interface: Auto-opening printer #4,7.
Serial Interface: Auto-opening printer #4,7.
Serial Interface: Auto-opening printer #4,7.
Serial Interface: Auto-opening printer #4,7.
Serial Interface: Error - Flush printer #4,4 while closed - ignoring.
Serial Interface: Auto-opening printer #4,4.
Serial Interface: Auto-opening printer #4,4.
Received signal 11 (SIGSEGV), exiting.
Here I was trying to change the secondary printer address from default 7
to (channel I believe) 4.
Btw. if anybody can print successfully to his host printer with a program
in VICE I'd like to see the parts concerning the printers from her/his
vicerc.

I use a Unix based operating system, which means I get laid almost as often
as I have to reboot my computer.
