Just now was web-searching, trying to verify if I remembered the town name correctly for the computer camp I went to, and here you all are! I think I was 11 years old, and got to program on an Apple ][ whereas older kids got to program on Wang (or some other odd computer that I never saw since). The year before I was at a computer day camp near the Woodbridge/New Haven town line, in a building that was a private Jewish school in the other months, where we learned Basic on a TRS-80, and how core memory worked among other things.

Seems like most kids got an award at the end- I got one which was proudly displayed on my parent's mantelpiece for a decade, though I can't recall exactly what for, or anything I programmed!

Those two weeks were my only sleepover summer camp experience. Loved being immersed in learning, geekery. Didn't know what to do when one of the girl campers paid some small attention to still-soprano-voiced-boy me- and because she slightly mispronounced my name I assumed she was making fun of me. In retrospect, my name can be hard to get right, and I made someone who wanted to be a friend feel bad, sigh. Anyway, I pitied the counselors who had to watch over us, and am glad to see one on this forum saying it was a good gig!

I did a week long one at the local high school in the summer of 88 IIRC. But like Osgeld said, it was more of a day camp as we went home at night. I still have the disk I made with all the little demos on it (nothing too technical since I was only around 11 at the time).

The Beatles had all sorts of business plans in the late 60s. Apple Corps was
the umbrella organization. Under it was Apple Records for the musicians, and
then there was a group for film makers, and then another company for book
authors, and they even had their own retail store. IMO, it was a pretty
interesting chapter of the Beatles history, and it's worth reading into.
AFAIK, only Apple Records exists today.

It was, but I remember the name used as some sort of program from
Apple. It was attached to schools and summer camps. I remember because
our computer teacher wanted me to be in the "representative" for the
middle school I was attending (this would have been around 1981). He
had given me a bound folder with the Apple logo on it, and it described
the Apple Corps program from Apple. I remember a letter from someone at
Apple saying how important my responsiblity was. LOL. I was to read
the materials and hand out these flyers and it had information about
running a computer lab. Perhaps as this was not related to music ,
there was no conflict with the Beatles. I do remember thinking that
Apple Corps was a cute name (at the time I did not know of the Beatles).

That period wsa also big because few if any artists had taken such control
before that.

Of course, the sixties were about opening things up, the music industry
wsa very different at the end than it had been at the beginning.

Other artists followed with their own record labels, some more successful
than others. Grateful Dead Records only lasted a few years, for instance.

It's a bigger thing now, with artists from day one releasing their albums
on their own label. Or many "older" artists have been dropped by their
record company, but at least got the rights to their old records, so they
start a company and release the old records that way.

I know there were other campers there... anyone?

No, but this one time at band camp...
