Sorry clumsy fingers, full post below.

I am working with an Apple II clone (V-Tech Laser 3000/Dick Smith CAT). And the power supply is dead. I have a spare IIgs power supply that I want to use with the CAT until I can rebuild its PSU.

I know it won't fit physically but I can just use it externally. My question is the CAT only uses a +12v and +5v power supply. Is it ok to simply use these two lines from the IIgs power supply and ignore the -12v and -5v?

Should be fine. The only problem I can think of is something I
encountered with a PS I pulled out of a 1990-ish vintage no-name PC
clone that had an oddball "extra wire" comign out of it - Unless the -5V
line was connected to that "extra" line through a 2K Ohm resistor, the
+12V line wobbled all over the place when either the +5V or +12V line
was loaded. Adding the resistor turned the +12V line rock solid
regardless of load. Go figure. Haven't seen anything quite like it since
- may have been a fluke, I guess.

you should be fine in only using the +5V & +12V rails from a IIgs supply, as long as the load of the clone isn't above the ratings of the IIgs supply.
