So I talked with a friend today about various things, but the majority
of the conversation was about Genesis games. We discussed how various
hackers and homebrew programmers are still making games for a system
that is now over twenty years old. We also discussed how last
generation Genesis software, like Toy Story and The Lost World: Jurassic
Park, absolutely put to shame SNES hardware effects like Mode 7.

I thought this was significant to this group, and intend to post videos
about the topic as soon as I can. If there are any lurkers out there
that want to see more Genesis discussion sooner rather than later please
reply to this post and let me know. Otherwise I will continue to assume
that the past is a lost cause and continue to focus on fixing computers
and websites.

As all conversations should be! ;)

He started with 25, but this guy is currently down to 9. Though they
are all just simply roms dumped to a cart, with a printed insert, if I
had the money, I'd of bought *every single one of them*.

I am hoping he comes up with some more...and if he has the means that I
think he does, he will.

Then again, I am seriously considering one of those rom dump
carts...just buying one and then dumping stuff like that to it, playing
it, then going on to the next. This would even allow me to sell some of
the hacks I've bought over the years(they're worth so much!).

I firmly believe this title to be one of the most technically impressive
Genesis games ever. I also think this is the one that displays 256
colors on the static story screens(you may want to run that through
IrfanView though).

That bike level is just insanely cool. It's been a while since I've
played all the way through it, but I think there may be a few more
things like that in there somewhere. You may be able to just type some
codes in(either Game Genie or level codes) to test that out.

If you liked that, you may want to try out the flying/skating levels
from "A Dinosaur's Tale" as well. Though not nearly as impressive, they
are still quite good.

That's not to say that Mode 7 wasn't impressive, or didn't have its
use...but it definitely didn't evolve the way special effects seemed to
on the Genesis.

Crossposting this to RGVS(which I have done) may yield another reply or
two...but like I said, these two groups are just dead. I don't know that
that's a true reflection of the old school Sega community though, as
places like the Sega-16 forums are just oozing with posts about the
stuff. It's also possible that you may see more talk were this thread in
that alt.videogame.classic group(s).
