I've always sort of wanted a CDX...but the thing is, they're just
pretty...and that's about it. Though a 32X can be hooked up, it's quite
the odd sight. Still, for those who enjoy a compact system, this would
be the way to go.

The Genesis/SCD/32X combo is probably the best, imo. The Genesis
2/SCD2/32X isn't bad, but I don't like how wide it is. The X'eye/32X
setup is pretty hip, but sadly the 32X cover its CD lid, so you have to
take it off every time you want to play a CD game.

Try ebay, they are dirt cheap there...even some of the best titles can
be had for less than $5. Just out of curiosity, what's the one game you
have for the 32X?

Oh Christ, that's right. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE don't base your opinion
of the 32X off that game. It's dull, both graphically and gameplay-wise.
Try something like MK2, Shadow Squadron or Knuckles Chaotix. All good stuff.

> Did you ever play pirates gold ?. Bruce

Briefly. My girlfriend has been playing that Pirates game on the Xbox,
and it definitely brings back a lot of memories, so I am hankering to
get down to it.

Actually, I prefer my CD-X for playing on real Sega Genesis hardware
-- it's nice and portable and works with practically every Genesis/MD
piece add on hardware -- Unlike the Nomad, Mega Jet, and Genesis 3
(None of which work with the PBC or 32-x, or have a port to attach the
CD).

So far it plays:

Genesis/Megadrive (both NTSC and the two PAL variants -- and I've only
found 1 PAL game that doesn't work)
SMS (using a modified PBC 1 or the euro PBC 2 -- there's one or two
SMS games that do not work on this)
Mark III and SG-1000 (using the rather rare Mega Converter)
Sega CD/Mega CD
32-X
Pico (Pico games should be bootable using a RAM card or EPROM emulator
though I haven't personally tried this)

The only things it can't do is Mega LD (only on the Pioneer
Laseractive) and Game Gear (It's rumored that an adapter to play GG on
Genesis was in development)

Johnny Blaze, Spirits of Vengeance    Actually I found 36 great holes
to be a fairly good golf game. True It's not anywhere up there with
Tiger Woods, or PGA Golf, but it's better than any Tee Off golf game
I,ve played, or any of those cutsie golf games they have out. I'm not
into fighting hand to hand games. Shadow Squadron looks interesting. I
have a few Space Sim/Shooters on different consoles. I went to diget
press and looked up the selection of 32x games. Sadly there is'nt a
whole lot to choose from. I would definitly be interested in After
Burner, Blackthorne, Dune , Motocross Championship ,Pittfall , and one
I'll never be able to find. Spider-Man : Web of Fire. I know you have
that game. I have quite a few rare games also. Probably the rarest or
hardest to find game for the Genny is 1 game I have 2 copies of. It's
Warsong. One copy is the game only. and the other is NIB. I had
Pirates Gold but I sent it to a good home. Do you know any one who
wants a Wii ?. I have one with 6 games that I might trade or sell. It
has 2 controllers ,the sports attachment add ons and a steering wheel.
I can hardly get my wife to play it. That's who I mainly bought it
for. All in excellent to mint condition. Any way, I'll keep looking
out for some of the 32x gamesBruce.

Well, I can definitely understand that. In terms of portables, other
than some sort of laptop, the CDX is definitely the best.

> So far it plays:
>

> found 1 PAL game that doesn't work)

I'd assume it doesn't have anything extra going on here, and that like
the Genesis 1 and 2, it'll play any given import that's not specifically
region coded.

> SMS (using a modified PBC 1 or the euro PBC 2 -- there's one or two
> SMS games that do not work on this)

The PBC also works on the X'eye, but you actually have to remove it from
the shell. I've still yet to actually see a PBC2. I hear that it doesn't
have any new features though, but rather it's just a remodeling of the
shell so that it'll work with Genesis 2 units.

> Mark III and SG-1000 (using the rather rare Mega Converter)

Hmmmm, now this is news to me. I'm not real interested in anything on
the Mark III or SG-1000(everything I've seen on both doesn't really
impress me that much. Aren't they both just variations on the the SMS
anyway?), but this talk of a converter I had no idea even existed, does!

> Sega CD/Mega CD

Without a converter cart, how do you manage to run Mega CD titles on
there? Are you re-encoding the discs with the US Region coding?

> 32-X

Good stuff. I'd imagine you have to set it up against something in order
to keep the CDX from tipping?

> Pico (Pico games should be bootable using a RAM card or EPROM emulator
> though I haven't personally tried this)

Sure, but this would work even on the Genesis wouldn't it? KEGA runs
Pico games, and I've seen a few of them...it appears to be just Genesis
hardware with some sort of touchpad controls.

> The only things it can't do is Mega LD (only on the Pioneer

I *really* wish the GG adapter thing would have been released. I have
been having a Hell of a time trying to find a working GG unit. There's
always something wrong, be it the screen going out, the sound not
working, etc. Sucks ass too, because I've got *so fucking many* GG games.

You ought to give Hot Shots a try, if you have a PS1. It's cutesy, true
enough, but man the gameplay is *great*.

SS is probably one of the best games available on the 32X.

This was due to some internal fighting with SoA and SoJ: SoA wanted to
keep going on with the Genesis for another full year while the Saturn
was being released in Japan, but after Sega saw the PS1, they flipped
out and rushed the Saturn to the market, thus killing the 32X.

There were a whole shitload of awesome-looking titles coming to the 32X,
but all were dropped when the Saturn launched. Some of them looked
absolutely amazing too...

I didn't like it in the arcade, but those who did will tell you that the
32X conversion is quite good.

I sampled this via emulation. If you can get past the Out of this

Dune was never on the 32X. Perhaps you're thinking of the Genesis or
Sega CD version?

Believe it or not, this one is actually really good. I didn't like it at

title.

Yeah, this one is definitely a hard one to come by. I really enjoy it, I
thought that Blue Sky did a great job. The graphics will blow you away.

I've come across that one a few times, but I've never picked it up. I
hear it's the US version of a popular Japanese series. I can't remember
what it's called though, off the top of my head.

I feel your pain. I bought one for my girlfriend and she hardly plays it
as well. If I were you, I'd hit ebay and sell it. With the Wii still
being nearly impossible to find, you could probably end up getting
around $400+ for the bundle of stuff you've got.

The 32X Memorial is a good place to hit first:

Here you can find a list of all games actually released, as well as some
quick thoughts on most.

It's Super Skidmarks, and from what I can gather it was coded to be a
PAL game from the ground up -- including vertical blank timing and
colour frequency. I did get it to boot properly on the Nomad with a
50Hz hack but the colour was messed up (again, colourburst frequency
seems to be a problem). FWIW, no other Codies game seems to have this
problem -- even the ones that were never intended for the US (except
Micro Machine II, which was slated for US release but cancelled).

No card port so no cards or 3D games.

The Mega Converter is the japanese equivalent to the PBC 1, identical
except for the Mark III cart port. Rather rare though.

Yup, since the common converter carts don't support the CD-X BIOS. I
wonder if you could downgrade the BIOS to the regular Sega CD one,
since there's nothing much gained on the newer.

Some different addressing, but basically yes.

I'd stay away from the Majesco-rereleased Game Gear. Game Gears
should be far easier to find in the wild than Nomads though.

Yeah, I hate it when a PAL game is hardcoded PAL. I can't remember, but
I think that other awesome-looking racer(cannot remember the name of it
right now, but it's incredible) is PAL-only as well. SS looks pretty
hip, like a cross between RC Pro Am and Super OffRoad.

Ah, that's too bad(not for the card games, because I've *yet* to find an
SMS card game that's work playing, but rather for the 3D games).

Ah, I see.

I asked this question a while back in RGVS; my intent being to upgrade
the bios on my Model 1 SCD to 2.00. KKC said that the SCD bios is
non-flashable, and that even if it was it's possible that it'd kill the
SCD unit as it'd be running a bios that was made for another model.

I almost want to get one, but from what I saw of the games via KEGA, I
wasn't real thrilled.

Oh, finding a GG isn't the problem...it's finding a fully functioning
one that's killing me. Either the screen's dead, or dying, the sound is
going out(or is completely out), etc. It sucks ass. I really wish I'd of
held on to mine back in the day(I *still* don't know what happened to
it). :(
