Speaking of court-martials, Kirk should get one for not raising
shields when a non-communicating Reliant first approached the Enterprise
(in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan). You recall that Saavik reminded
the Admiral of regulations but was brushed off by Captain Spock.
The result was destruction, death and injury on the Enterprise.
Ah, Kirk squeeks by again!

True enough, but military leadership usually smiles at success... and
ignores little "mistakes" on the way. Look at Monte Casino- a blatant case
of ineptitude, yet no one was court martialled over it. After all, we won...

Actually, Kirk has a lot to answer for to HIMSELF for that small lapse. If he
had raised the shields, Reliant would not have been able to disable Enterprise
(after all, I would think a heavy cruiser would be able to whip a scout, in
anything but a surprise attack), Reliant might have been recovered in the final
battle, Spock would not have been killed trying to get the mains back on line,
the Genesis planet would not have been formed, his son would not have been
killed, McCoy would not have been driven crazy, his crew would not have
turned into renegades, and Shatner would not be making two million...

Hey, wait a second, this Kirk is rather devious, after all! :-)
