So what? Ask a Miku to sing in the opening ceremony?

Don't knock it :-)
This is an anime-related topic; there have been a few anime that mention
the 1964 Tokyo Olympics (or Olympics of other years).
"Showa Monogatari" set in the 1960's mentions the 1964 Olympics.
IIRC, the volleyball anime Attack no 1 ends with the main character
playing at the Olympics, and "Yawara" was inspired by a Japanese woman's
success in the Olympics. Can anyone name any others?

I also predict than in the next few years we'll be getting a load more
of them.

It was the other way 'round. "Yawara!" already was popular when Ryoko
Tamura won silver in the Barcelona Olympics, and she was nicknamed after
the main character from the series.

You nailed it before I could. The real life person even was tagged with
the Yawara name in the media. Yawara ran to 124 episodes
with only one double recap and a movie to wind it up. But it was
incredibly popular with all segments of the viewing public there.
I only know about that because I have in the past pursued every bit of
information I could find about the series.
I still watch it at every opportunity and have yet to get totally bored
by it.

Ghibli should make "From Up on Poppy Hill 2" in connection with the 2020 Olympics.

hmmm. Did Miyazaki retire just in time to have time to produce and/or
direct the 2020 opening ceremony?

IIIRC in Akira, there is a banner announcing how many days before the
start of the Tokyo Olympic games.

Captain Tsubasa, was in the football qualifiers for the 2004 Olympics.

It had already started, Captain Tsubasa and Doraemon were recruited for
the Tokyo bid.

That's what I meant by "nicknamed after the main character from the
series".

2 movies, actually. The first one (Soreyuke Koshinuke Kiss!!) is only
loosely connected. The second one (Zutto Kimi no Koto ga) is basically
the finale of the TV series.

Don't forget the greatest anime element of all about the Olympics coming to Tokyo in 2020: Akira predicted this happening! In Akira, the Olympics are scheduled for 2020 Neo Tokyo and the stadium with Akira in cryonic deep freeze in the basement. Could this mean that Neo Tokyo is about to E.X.P.L.O.D..E. after all?
