How many of you who participate in this NG are original fans of the
original Star Trek?
Meaning: Did you watch the show during its first network run?
I am one. Who else? :)

As opposed to the second network run?
I was old enough to watch but I don't recall doing so.
I watched "Lost in Space." LOL
We seemed to watch mostly CBS back then.

I did, though I started viewing it after TOS had already premiered.
I was just channel surfing and happened to come across it. I was
immediately hooked.

Here in Australia, I watched some/lots of it on T.V. during it's first
run, which would have been somewhat after the U.S.of A. release!!

I watched it for the first time during the original run in the Low
Countries.
The Belgium Dutch language public broadcaster (the Flemish BRT) on
Saturdays, in the early evening.
A Dutch public broadcaster (NOS) on Sunday. Mostly in the afternoon if I
recall.
Sometimes I saw the same episode TWICE in one weekend. :-)
This was in the early seventies.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060028/releaseinfo?ref_=tt_dt_d t
I was born in the year 1966, so I saw it for the first time when I was about
5 years old.
It practically became "ingrained in my dna"! :-)
(must say... I get the feeling that date shown for Belgium is a bit late,
but I could be wrong about that. Maybe it is the date for the French
language broadcaster).

Me, it was on every Saturday at 6 PM for years in the early 1970's. It was
the first show we ever saw in color when we got our first color TV around
1974!

Why?
If they watched it weeks or months later, as first run in another country.
That should still count as "FIRST RUN".

Uh, no. One country north of the American frontier had what was known
as SIMULCAST. Sometimes a show would appear in this country even
BEFORE it did on a US network.

Nope. First run was only once. In 1966 in the U.S. of A and north of
the border, either SIMULCAST or even a day or 2 earlier.

2 things to understand here:
1) First run was in 1966. Period.
2) There is no K/S in TOS, etc, etc., etc.

The discussion was about countries such as New Zealand and other
countries some distance from the continental USA.

The discussion is about the first run of TOS. That happened once, in
1966, in North American Air-Wave Space. NORAD was not involved. I was
there, sitting on my ass and farting into my favourite pillow. So
there!

Do you actually read any posts before responding? Do you have any
comprehension at all? Can you actually follow a conversation? Can you
actually say anything without being an arrogant jerk? The answer to
these questions is apparently 'no.'
Re-read the above thread. And grow up.

I glance at other posts with mild contempt and amusement and reread my
own posts for the immense pleasure that they give me. Next question.

This thread is about the first network run. That happened ONLY ONCE
("First": see definition in Earth paper data recording device known as
"dictionary") in North American AIRSPACE in 1966.
TOS was later re-broadcast to the rest of Planet Earth via television
radio-wave technology and then the Galaxy via subspace packet.
Anything else?

How many of you who participate in this NG are original fans of the
original Star Trek?
Meaning: Did you watch the show during its first network run?
I am one. Who else? :)
The only part of the original ST run i remember watching was when the
bum steals Bone's phaser in "City on the Edge of Forever' and
distintegrates himself

Before "TOS was later re-broadcast to the rest of Planet Earth via
television radio-wave technology", it was broadcast "to the rest of
Planet Earth" in "first network run" at different times, in different
places, over the years.

I can re-call having seen Star Trek, in first run, because, in Grade Six
(app 1968), we had to "write" a booklet and mine was about the Captain
and Science Officer of a spaceship transporting over to a derelict space
ship.
I seem to recall that I typed it and added/painted pictures!!
Worst thing about it?? After handing it in for assessment, I've never
seen it!!
All that time and effort!! Well! At least I passed!

Good. The qualifier "Australia" is the way to do it. The word you
people are actually looking for is "airdate". The show first aired in
1966. Probably in September. In territory under the jurisdiction of
the North American Aerospace Command. That would be a place known as
"North America".

Gee, Mito, I thought Canada and Mexico were also part of "North
America". Are they protected by "North American Aerospace Command" as well??
In so many thing, U.S. of A.ian's think *THEY* are the world, but they
are only one small part of it!!
So your qualifier would be US of A, as in....
First US of A Network Run: NBC, 1966.
And, as it was produced by a US of A network, I would expect it to have
its first Network run there .... not always the case, but mostly!

I understand it was /Canada/ that got it first.
September 6, 1966 in Canada.
September 8, 1966 in the USA.
https://www.facebook.com/notes/star-trek-new-voyagesphase-ii /september-6-happy-world-premiere-of-star-trek-september-8-i n-the-us/10151244121840934
As for NORAD, that is something of the United States *and* Canada.
http://www.norad.mil/Home.aspx
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_Aerospace_Defens e_Command
And yes, they left out Mexico.
Conclusion: The US was the /second/ country in which it was broadcast.
If imdb is correct, my country was the fifth. After Australia and the UK.
But also the first non Anglophonic country. :-)
BTW, we use subs and hear the /original/ voices.
Thank goodness!!

Yes, it was PRODUCED by a USA network, known by the call letters
"NBC". It was also broadcast on a network north of the American border
(either CTV or CBC) AT THE SAME TIME, in a country that begins with
the letter "C". You do not understand the notion of SIMULCAST, and
no, it does not mean a broadcast in differerent mediums.
Canada and Mexico are indeed part of the wilderness known as "North
America". The "North American Aerospace Command" actually existed - it
was usualy called N.O.R.A.D.. Mexico was not protected, but Canada
was. You don't know this because you were raised on e-mail and cell-
phones in Terra Incognita.
Now once again - There was only ONE FIRST NETWORK RUN - in 1966,
visible to viewers in the US and parts of Canada. At the same time.
Same day. Same hour. Sometimes even the same commercials.

At last. Someone who understands!
As I stated, based on experience and memory and NOT internet research,
some US network shows were broadcast in Canada a few days or a day
before they were broadcast in the States. TPM and all the rest have no
idea of anything beyond America's borders. They are provincial
suburbanites.
I grew up in a non-Anglophone country north of the American border and
I saw the first show before it was broadcast in the United States. I
saw it before TPM and all the other slackers, basementers and suburban
dweebs who infest this site. I saw ALL IN THE FAMILY, BEWITCHED and
THE FLINTSTONES before anyone else did, too.
Fred Flintstone - His immortal legacy is one that I have always tried
to live up to!

"NATO" has intrigued me, as, for a long time, most of the countries in
NATO are *not* North Atlantic nations, and now I think Russia is a
member of NATO, or has "Observer" status or something!
And who would have thought "NORAD" *does* cover Canada! Sorry, Mito.
